I have been a freelance writer for the Internet for about a decade; before that time, I published science fiction and fantasy in major publications.

I hold multiple certifications in computer-related technologies and have been trained as a professional herbalist.

I am also a professional photographer and videographer.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to become a jack-of-all-trades and have been invited to television talk shows to offer my assistance.

I came to Suite101 to share my experiences and expertise, and to foster new relationships in the writing field.

In the fall of 2006, I was declared blind, due to a genetic defect in both eyes. Though I can still somewhat see, it is difficult at best, and I have an intimate understanding of what those with disabilities suffer. I, however, refuse to let it hold me down and use the unique vision it gives me to create photos and videos with a new view of reality.

One of my children, Seth, has a rare and severe form of Autism called "Childhood Disintegrative Disorder." Because of these things, a deep interest was fostered in me to research the techniques and technologies being developed to assist those with disabilities, especially in the realm of mental health.
